The Birth of a Women’s Sports Ministry

“When the time is right, I, the Lord will make it happen.” Isaiah 60:22

After twelve years of serving the female coaches and athletes of Spartanburg County, God made it very clear to me that this is the time. Years earlier, after the first major event I planned for girls and their coaches, a friend planted a seed deep in my heart. From her work with Lifeway, she knew there were few resources and conferences specifically for female coaches and athletes. She encouraged me to start a women’s sports ministry, but I knew the time was not right, as I was just beginning to build relationships and a ministry.

God spent the next eleven years teaching and preparing me, as I was able to plan and direct unique conferences for female coaches and athletes, some of the largest girls’ team camps in the nation, softball leagues led by college athletes for middle and high school players, and numerous team studies. Later, it would have been so easy to remain silent and retired, but these words in Esther 4:14 spoke louder – “And who knows but that you have come to your position for such a time as this?” So after nine months of focused preparations, we celebrated the birth of FACES of Total Victory® NP in 2018! God’s amazing love for the Female Athletes and Coaches Engaged in Sports (FACES) includes a plan for Total Victory!

Is There Really A Need For A Female Sports Ministry?

  • Approximately 70% of 6-12 year old girls participate in an individual or team sport.
  • According to the National Federation of State High Schools Association, an all-time high of 3,415,306 girls competed in high school sports in 2018. Over 37,000 of these girls are in S.C. These are record levels.
  • NCAA statistics show that 44% of athletes competing at the collegiate level are women and 54% of collegiate teams are women’s teams.
  • In 1984 23% of Olympic athletes were women. At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo women will make up 49% of the athletes.
  • According to a global study by Ernst & Young, 61% of female executives said that competing in sports contributed to their career success.

SO THE ANSWER IS YES!

Our girls and women have great value and will certainly benefit from a sports ministry that will focus specifically on their needs.
